Of the cate***ries,he found most6 were us*** by both sets of dolph***s7—but eight were o***y heard from the Irish dolph***s.
“We are build***g up a catalogue of the different whistle types they use and try***g *** associate them with beh**iour ***ke f***ag***g,rest***g,socia***s***g and the ***mmun***ations of groups with calves,”project leader Simon Berrow said.“Essentially we are build***g up what is ***ke a d***tionary of w***ds they use *** sounds they make.”
Berrow,a mar***e biologist,said the dolph***s c***cks are us*** *** f***d their way around and locate prey.The whistles are ***mmun***ations.“They do a whole range of other sounds ***ke barks,groans and a k***d of gun***t,” he said.“The gun***t is an ***tense pulse of sound.Sperm whales use it *** stun their prey.”
“When I first heard it I was surpris*** as I thought sperm whales were the o***y species who us*** it.We can speculate the dolph***s are us***g it f*** the sa*** reason as the sperm whales,” Berrow said.
